Co-Director
Chris is the Co-Director of Trase and a Professor at SEI York, specializing in ecology, supply chain modelling, and private sector engagement. He has been a Trase researcher since 2018. In addition to his leadership responsibilities, he remains actively involved with Trase’s Research and Development and Impact teams. Throughout his career, Chris has contributed to the development of models, tools, and projects at SEI that examine the relationships between consumption, supply chain activities, environmental degradation, and sustainable development. He holds a BSc in Ecology, Conservation and the Environment (2005) and a PhD in Ecology (2010), both from the University of York.
The removal of the Global Environmental Impacts of Consumption (GEIC) indicator from the Global Biodiversity Framework leaves governments without a robust, science-based tool to measure the biodiversity impacts of consumption and trade. Trase explains the value of GEIC in shaping more effective, equitable and transparent policies to address the global biodiversity crisis.
Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity have agreed to ensure sustainable consumption. Trase, in partnership with the Joint Nature Conservation Committee, Defra, the GCRF Trade Hub and SEI York, is releasing an enhanced Global Environment Impacts of Consumption (GEIC) indicator to address the need for a comprehensive, trade-informed measure of progress.
