Martin Persson is professor in land-use science and head of the Physical Resource Theory division, Department of Energy & Environmental Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology. He conducts multidisciplinary research on sustainable land use, with a special focus on issue relating to drivers of deforestation, conservation policy, as well as policies for more sustainable food consumption. The overall aim of the research is to understand how to formulate efficient policies - both public and private - to reduce negative environmental impacts of agricultural expansion into natural ecosystems, as well as processes that erodes the effectiveness of these such as leakage and indirect land use change. Together with colleague Chandrakant Singh he has developed DeDuCE - a global dataset on commodity-driven deforestation available at www.deforestationfootprint.earth."
