District government in Indonesia uses Trase data to inform palm oil strategy

East Kalimantan, Indonesia, is a region experiencing rapid growth in palm oil plantations, creating a need for sustainable and transparent land-use governance. However, local governments face limitations in managing production and supply chain data, limiting their visibility of the supply chain.

To help address this gap and strengthen the capacity of local authorities to monitor and manage regional plantation activities, Trase’s lead partner in Indonesia, Auriga, conducted a series of training and capacity building sessions with the provincial and district governments in East Kalimantan. These training sessions introduced how supply chain data is collected, visualised and used for decision making.

Following this work in 2022, the East Kutai district government, part of East Kalimantan province, formally adopted Trase’s palm oil supply chain data as its official district data. This initiative is expected to support local governments in developing data-driven strategies for sustainable and transparent palm oil production.
